Подставляя любую повседневно встречающуюся скорость в выражение под радикалом, вы получите величину, столь близкую к единице, что Г и Г' можно, по существу, считать равными. Но если вы подставите v — 0,5с, v = 0,75с или v = 0,9с (такие скорости характерны для некоторых субатомных частиц), то замедление времени становится достаточно заметным, чтобы его можно было измерить в лаборатории.

Такие измерения действительно проводились и стали сильным подтверждением специальной теории относительности.
