And already (и уже), so strong was the bewilderment of the treasure upon him (так сильно было его замешательство от сокровища = вызванное сокровищем), he was pondering (что он уже раздумывал) whether by the help of Dain he might not (не сможет ли он, с помощью Дейна) recapture the Arkenstone (вновь захватить Аркенстоун) and withhold the share of the reward (и удержать долю от вознаграждения /взломщика/).

“Get down now to your friends!” he said to Bilbo, “or I will throw you down. ”
“What about the gold and silver?” asked Bilbo.
“That shall follow after, as can be arranged, ” said he. “Get down!”
“Until then we keep the stone, ” cried Bard.
“You are not making a very splendid figure as King under the Mountain, ” said Gandalf. “But things may change yet. ”
“They may indeed, ”said Thorin. And already, so strong wast he bewilderment of the treasure upon him, he was pondering whether by the help of Dain he might not recapture the Arkenstone and withhold the share of the reward.
And so Bilbo was swung down from the wall, and departed with nothing for all his trouble, except the armour which Thorin had given him already. More than one of the dwarves ‘in their hearts felt shame and pity at his going.
“Farewell!” he cried to them. “We may meet again as friends. ”
“Be off (проваливайте)!” called Thorin (крикнул Торин). “You have mail upon you (на вас кольчуга: «вы имеете кольчугу на себе»), which was made by my folk (что была изготовлена моим народом), and is too good for you (и /которая/ слишком хороша для вас). It cannot be pierced by arrows (ее нельзя пронзить стрелами); but if you do not hasten (но если вы не поторопитесь), I will sting your miserable feet (то я прострелю: «ужалю» ваши несчастные ноги). So be swift (так что поторопитесь)!”
“Not so hasty (не горячись; hasty — поспешный, быстрый, опрометчивый)!” said Bard. “We will give you until tomorrow (мы дадим тебе /время/ до завтра). At noon we will return (в полдень мы вернемся), and see if you have brought from the hoard (и посмотрим, принесешь ли ты из сокровищницы/клада) the portion that is to be set against the stone (ту часть/долю, что будет выставлена за камень). If that is done without deceit (если это будет выполнено без обмана), then we will depart (тогда мы уйдем), and the elf-host will go back to the Forest (и войско эльфов вернется в Лес). In the meanwhile farewell (а пока — прощай)!”
With that they went back to the camp (на этом они вернулись в лагерь); but Thorin sent messengers by Rac (но Торин с помощью Рэка отправил гонцов) telling Dain of what had passed (чтобы рассказать Дейну, что произошло), and bidding him come with wary speed (и попросить его прийти осторожно, но быстро: «с осторожной скоростью»; wary — осторожный, осмотрительный, настороженный). That day passed and the night (прошли день и ночь). The next day the wind shifted west (на следующий день ветер поменялся на западный; toshift—перемещать (ся), передвигать (ся); менять (ся), изменять (ся) ), and the air was dark and gloomy (и воздух был темным и мрачным). The morning was still early (утро было все еще ранним) when a cry was heard in the camp (когда в лагере послышался крик: «когда крик был слышан в лагере»; to hear (heard) ). Runners came in (прибежали гонцы) to report that a host of dwarves (чтобы сообщить, что войско гномов) had appeared round the eastern spur of the Mountain (появилось за восточным отрогом Горы) and was now hastening to Dale (и теперь торопится к Дейлу). Dain had come (пришел Дейн). He had hurried on through the night (он торопился всю ночь), and so had come upon them sooner (и поэтому приблизился к ним раньше) than they had expected (чем они ожидали). Each one of his folk was clad (каждый из его людей был облачен; to clothe (clothed, уст. clad) — одевать, покрывать, облекать) in a hauberk of steel mail (в кольчугу из стальной брони; mail — кольчуга, броня; hauberk — кольчуга) that hung to his knees (что свисали до колен; to hang (hung, hanged) ), and his legs were covered with hose (и
ноги их были покрыты поножами; hose — чулки, длинные носки, лосины) of a fine and flexible metal mesh (из мелкой и гибкой металлической сетки; flexible — гибкий, эластичный), the secret of whose making (секретом изготовления которой) was possessed by Dain’s people (владели люди Дейна).pierced [pst] deceit [d'si: t] hauberk ['h: b: k] flexible ['fleksb l]

The dwarves are exceedingly strong (гномы чрезвычайно сильны; to exceed — превышать, быть больше, превосходить) for their height (для своего роста), but most of these (но большинство из этих) were strong even for dwarves (были сильными даже для гномов). In battle they wielded (в бою они владели; towield — уметь обращаться /с чем-либо/, владеть /инструментом и т. п. /) heavy two-handed mattocks (тяжелыми двуручными мотыгами; hand — рука, кисть руки; two-handed — имеющий две руки или ручки, двуручный); but each of them had also (но у каждого был также) a short broad sword at his side (короткий широкий меч на боку) and a round shield slung at his back (и круглый щит, подвешенный за спиной; tosling (slung) — бросать, перебрасывать; подвешивать; вешать через плечо). Their beards were forked (бороды их были раздвоены; fork—вилка, вилы, рогуля; tofork — разветвляться, раздваивать, расщеплять надвое) and plaited (и заплетены; plait — коса; плетенка; to plait — заплетать, плести) and thrust into their belts (и заправлены в пояса; to thrust — толкать, тыкать; совать, засовывать). Their caps were of iron (шапки их были изготовлены из железа) and they were shod with iron (и они были обуты в железные /сапоги/; to shoe (shod) — обувать; подковывать), and their faces were grim (и лица их были угрюмы/грозны). Trumpets called men and elves to arms (трубы призвали людей и эльфов к оружию). Before long the dwarves could be seen coming up the valley (вскоре можно было увидеть, как гномы подходят по долине) at a great pace (на огромной скорости; pace — шаг; длина шага, темп). They halted between the river and the eastern spur (они остановились между речкой и восточным отрогом); but a few held on their way (но некоторые продолжили свой путь; to hold (held) on — продолжать делать что-либо), and crossing the river drew near the camp (и, переправившись через реку, подошли близко к лагерю; to draw (drew, drawn) ); and there they laid down their weapons (и там они сложили свое оружие) and held up their hands in sign of peace (и подняли вверх руки в знак мира). Bard went out to meet them (Бард вышел, чтобы встретить их), and with him went Bilbo (с ним же отправился и Бильбо).
