"Hear him! hear him!" piped Gagool; "hear the liar who says he will put out the sun like a lamp. Let him do it and the girl shall be spared. Yes, let him do it, or die with the girl, he and those with him."

I glanced up at the sun (я взглянул /наверх/ на солнце), and, to my intense joy and relief (и, к своей глубокой радости и облегчению), saw that we had made no mistake (увидел, что мы не ошиблись; mistake — ошибка, заблуждение; to make a mistake — сделать ошибку). A groan of terror rose from the on lookers (стон ужаса раздался от наблюдавших). Some stood petrified with fear (некоторые стояли, окаменевшие от страха), others threw themselves upon their knees and cried out (другие бросились на колени и кричали). As for the king, he sat still and turned pale beneath his dusky skin (что касается короля, то он сидел неподвижно и /заметно/ побледнел, несмотря на свою смуглую кожу: «побледнел под смуглой кожей»). Only Gagool kept her courage (только Гагула сохраняла мужество).

Yet now I come to think of it (однако сейчас, когда я начинаю думать об этом), it was ungrateful to abuse the Lady of the Heavens (/я думаю, что/ было неблагодарным ругать владычицу небес; lady — леди, дама; поэт. владычица) —
