`Well, you do not want to be for ever peering into those worlds beyond the Fifteen Planes, do you (ну, ты же не хочешь всегда вглядываться в те миры, /лежащие/ за пределами Пятнадцати Плоскостей)?

`You mean the eye only sees there (ты хочешь сказать, глаз видит только там)?

`No. It sees here, too, but not always in the same kind of perspective (он видит здесь, но не всегда под тем же углом).

Corum frowned suspiciously at the sorcerer (нахмурившись, Корум подозрительно посмотрел на колдуна; to frown at — смотреть неодобрительно). The action made him blink (это действие заставило его моргнуть). Suddenly, through his new eye, he saw many new images (вдруг своим новым глазом он увидел много новых образов), while still staring at Shool with his ordinary eye (в то время как он по-прежнему пристально смотрел на Шула обычным глазом). They were dark images and they shifted until eventually one predominated (они были неясными образами и перемещались, пока, наконец, один не стал преобладать = затмил остальные).

`Shool! What is this world (что это за мир)?

Corum frowned suspiciously at the sorcerer. The action made him blink. Suddenly, through his new eye, he saw many new images, while still staring at Shool with his ordinary eye. They were dark images and they shifted until eventually one predominated.

`Shool! What is this world?

`I am not sure (я не уверен). Some say there are another Fifteen Planes (некоторые говорят, что существуют другие Пятнадцать Плоскостей) which are a kind of distorted mirror image of our own planes (которые являются чем-то вроде отражения в кривом зеркале наших собственных плоскостей; distorted — кривой, искаженный; image — образ, изображение; отражение /в зеркале/). That could be such a place, eh (это могло быть подобным местом, не так ли)?

Things boiled and bubbled, appeared and disappeared (предметы кипели и пузырились, появлялись и исчезали). Creatures crept upon the scene and then crept back again (существа вползали в поле зрения, а затем отползали обратно = появлялись и исчезали; scene — место действия; зрелище, картина; to creep). Flames curled, land turned to liquid (/языки/ пламени завивались, земля превращалась в жидкость), strange beasts grew to huge proportions and shrank again (странные звери вырастали до огромных размеров и сморщивались снова; to shrink — уменьшать/ся/, сморщиваться), flesh seemed to flow and reform (/их/ плоть, казалось, текла и меняла форму).

`I am glad I do not belong to that world (я рад, что не принадлежу к этому миру), Corum murmured. `Here, Shool, give me the shield (ну-ка, Шул, дай мне повязку).

He took the thing from the sorcerer and positioned it over the eye (он взял эту вещь у колдуна и накрыл глаз: «разместил поверх глаза»). The scenes faded and now he saw only Shool and Rhalina — but with both eyes (видения померкли, и теперь он видел тишь Шула и Ралину — но обоими глазами; to fade — увядать; тускнеть, постепенно исчезать).

`What did you see, Corum (что ты видел, Корум)? Rhalina asked quietly (спросила Ралина тихо).

He shook his head (он покачал головой).

`Nothing I could easily describe (ничего, что мог бы легко описать).

Rhalina looked at Shool.

`I wish you would take back your gifts, Prince Shool (я желаю, чтобы ты забрал обратно свои дары, принц Шул). Such things are not for mortals (подобные вещи не для смертных).

Shool grimaced (Шул сгримасничал = его лицо исказилось).

`He is not a mortal now (он теперь не смертный). I told you, he is a demigod (я говорил — он полубог).

`And what will the Gods think of that (а что боги подумают об этом)?

`What did you see, Corum? Rhalina asked quietly.

He shook his head.

Rhalina looked at Shool.

`I wish you would take back your gifts, Prince Shool. Such things are not for mortals.

Shool grimaced.

`He is not a mortal now. I told you, he is a demigod.

`And what will the Gods think of that?

`Well, naturally, some of them will be displeased if they ever discover Master Corum's new state of being (ну, естественно, некоторые из них будут недовольны, если когда-нибудь узнают о новой форме бытия господина Корума). I think it unlikely, however (однако, думаю, это маловероятно).

Rhalina said grimly (мрачно): `You talk of these matters too lightly, sorcerer (ты говоришь об этих вещах слишком легко, колдун; matter — вещество; тема, вопрос, предмет). If Corum does not understand the implications of what you have done to him, I do (если Корум не понимает последствий /того/, что ты с ним сделал, то я понимаю; implication — вовлечение, привлечение; включение; последствия, результаты). There are laws which mortals must obey (существуют законы, которым смертные должны подчиняться). You have transgressed those laws and you will be punished (ты нарушил те законы и будешь наказан; to transgress — нарушать, переступать /закон, общественные нормы и т. д. /) — as your creations — will be punished and destroyed (как и твои творения, будешь наказан и уничтожен)!

Shool waved his bear's arms dismissively (Шул махнул своими медвежьими лапами отрицательно = отмахнулся; to dismiss — увольнять; освобождать от обязанностей; отвергать).

`You forget that I have a great deal of power (ты забываешь, что я обладаю значительным могуществом). I shall soon be in a position to defy any god upstart enough to lock swords with me (вскоре я буду в состоянии вызвать любого бога /на поединок/, достаточно дерзкого, чтобы скрестить мечь со мной; to defy — вызывать, бросать вызов; upstart — выскочка, самонадеянный; to lock — запирать /на замок/; сцеплять).
